EMDR

Restore from incident-based traumatic experiences from the inside out

When a specific target needs to be cleared

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing was developed by Francis Shapiro.  In addition to EMDRIA-instructed training in the standard protocol, I have completed specialized trainings to work specifically with cravings and urges to support recovery and long term sobriety. My approach has a heavy somatic component to expand cognitive integration and minimize looping.

Additional development of protocol and techniques was done by Katie O'Shea and Sarah Paulsen integrating preverbal trauma restoration. There preverbal EMDR protocols rely heavily on the the research by Jaak Panksepp, a neuroscientist and psychobiologist who coined 'affective neuroscience'.

This has been a significant contribution to the the sequencing of the Safe and Sound Protocol, the Rest and Restore Protocol, EMDR, and Affective Reset to optimize the restoration for individual clients. In addition, the Affective Reset service is an integration of techniques that open affective flow through the psychophysiology, bi-directional between brain and body.

In particular, clients who experience affective shutdown with conventional EMDR benefit from conducting the Safe and Sound Protocol as part of Phase 2 resourcing.

"As affective flow is restored, all flows of the body are restored."      Dr. Raja Selvam, founder of Integral Somatic Psychology
